THE ELDER PROJECT
VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE
THE PROJECT |
OBJECTIVE |
With the help of the Ripon High School Leadership Program, I will host a voter registration drive to engage Central Valley voters in their school, city, and county elections. I plan to host this event two weeks before county elections, as regulations allow voter registrations to occur, and also distribute information about when, where, and how voters can cast their ballots. Using physical county voter registration cards (CRVs), volunteers will inform students on how to fill out their cards in the Ripon High School Library. Our demographic will primarily target young Ripon High School, Harvest High School, and Ripon Christian High School students to pre-register to vote, and registering qualifying older students to vote in the upcoming county elections. The volunteers and I will return the CRVs to the San Joaquin Registrar of Voters Department as we remind students to vote in the local elections.

The goal of this drive is to encourage the local community to engage in county elections by providing them with the means of legally voting. In particular, this drive will provide young and elderly voters as well as Black and Brown voters who have been and continue to be disenfranchised from the political process with information on their rights to vote. I also hope to gain a more complete personal understanding of local elections as I host this event.
